Making an entrance on a white horse isn’t just for Prince Charming—it’s also the way a groom greets his guests for the first time at a traditional Indian ceremony.
Sumit rode his white horse across the Intercontinental Montelucia Resort and Spa grounds to the foot of Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale, Ariz., where he waited for his bride, Neha. The couple married in an exuberant affair, executed by Victoria of Victoria Canada Weddings and Events.
“We had all the elements of a traditional Indian wedding—the horse, a drummer—but we tried to give the wedding a contemporary and modern feel,” Victoria told Pretty Little Weddings.
Victoria and a team of vendors worked with the resort’s “Spanish feel,” using bold and ”spicy” colors throughout the ceremony and reception. “I try not to fight the surroundings with a color palette,” Victoria explained. At the reception, Victoria paired orange-saffron linens with a velvet purple overlay and topped tables with fuchsia flowers. The team also “did a lot of draping and up-lighting in the room,” and used flat-screen TV to show off slide-shows of the couple.
Food at the reception included a slew of Neha’s mother’s recipes, Victoria said, because “food was super important to them.” And for their first dance, Neha and Sumit danced the tango and “they rocked it out,” Victoria said.
Thank you to Victoria for telling PLW readers all about this colorful wedding, and to Hollye Schumacher for sharing these photos.
