When Martin proposed, he handed Masami a rose-cut diamond set into a hand-carved wood ring. The sight might have shocked anyone but Masami, a jewelry designer and metal smith. “He knew,” she said, “that I would want to design my own ring.”
For their engagement session, the couple drove photographer Jessica Burke through the streets of San Francisco, pointing out alleyways and nooks and crannies and “wonderful locations throughout the city for backdrops,” Jessica said. “They have spent a large portion of their relationship in San Francisco, and they wanted to have images to remind them of their time there when they got older.”
Martin and Masami’s then-10-month-old dog—a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Rudy—also tagged along for the shoot. “He’s such a mellow sweetheart,” Masami said. “We love him like he’s our baby.”
The couple was married in September just south of the city they love.
