Pretty Little Weddings

Our engagement session by VUE Photography

We thought we’d covered all the fun-filled bases: We’d gathered oversized sunglasses and adhesive mustaches, silly string cans and clowns noses, a floral blanket and a woven basket, a bottle of wine and fresh fruit. And then VUE Photography commandeered an ice cream bus for our engagement session.

We kissed in the back of that truck like two young children who snuck away from the supervision of the driver. We sipped on French wine beneath moss-covered Oaks. We shot the ladies of VUE Photography with silly string. A lot of silly string. This session defined fun on all its many levels. And it was totally, completely us.

No, Mike and I don’t don adhesive mustaches for our date nights and we don’t often get to board ice cream buses—though we’ve been known to chase them—but goodness, do we have fun together. Thank you to Genya and Wesleyann of VUE for capturing our comfortableness, our laughter and our love so perfectly.

I hope you enjoy the photos below and soon enough, we’ll be posting a link to video by Diva Productions, who tagged along for the session to shoot some fabulous promotional material for VUE.

Editor’s Note: Wedding moments that take you from cool to crazy

In the days following our engagement session, I went from a pulled-together woman to a neurotic e-mail checker. I needed regular access to my personal account like a coffee addict needs their grinds. Waiting for the “ping” that would tell me VUE Photography had dropped me an electronic note was the longest four days of my life.

So I’m being a little dramatic. But perhaps when you see our photos—today on Pretty Little Weddings!!—you’ll understand. Check back in just a couple hours for the images, but in the meantime, tell me—what wedding moments have made you go from cool, calm and collected to crazy?

This week, Pretty Little Weddings will feature a rustic engagement session with a Tiffany & Co. touch, followed by the same couple’s beautiful barnyard wedding.  We’ll also bring you a backyard wedding with big city flair, and an eclectic beach fete you won’t soon forget. Enjoy!—Jillian

A bicycle built for two e-session by Alison Conklin

One hundred fifty. That’s how many times Far etched out his proposal on fallen leaves, then scattered the words on the spot where he’d later drop to one knee.

He’d planned the most beautiful, natural proposal, he thought—until a construction crew came the next morning and threatened to destroy the plans he’d so carefully laid in the park. “He quickly began collecting the leaves and almost got thrown out of the park because the crew thought he was dumping trash,” his now-fiancée, Colleen, said.

The leaves safe, Far returned home to take Colleen on a picnic in the park. It was her birthday.

“Far kept talking about nature and how great it was,” Colleen said. “I has no clue why he was so chatty about nature and ‘all the things around us.’ Eventually he said, ‘your birthday present is out there,’ and pointed to nothing but the ground and a tree many feet away. I looked around and after a while finally saw one of the leaves. I was so shocked at what I was seeing.”

Far “got down on one knee,” Colleen said, “and I got so nervous that I did, too.”

The couple returned to Philadelphia for their engagement session with photographer Alison Conklin. “I always had wanted pictures at the art museum steps,” Colleen explained. “And we picked having a bike because Far gave up his car nearly seven years ago for public transit, in order to get off oil.”

She said, “I hoped the photos could reflect a piece of each of us in the same space.”
