Guests’ eyes grew big as they watched Lauren and Cameron one by one drop to their knees and remove the other’s shoes. Their minds raced as the bride and groom pulled their wedding-day clothing away from the water. And they were in awe when the couple began to wash one another’s feet in the basin.
“It is a picture of service and self-sacrificial love,” Lauren said. “People thought I was crazy to get down in my wedding dress and wash his feet, but that’s exactly why I wanted to do it. It is not easy. But it is how I want to live my life as a wife—serving my sweet husband, and he does the same for me.”
Lauren and Cameron’s entire wedding, she said, focused on love and service—to each other, and to God. “Our theme verse was Isaiah 62:5—‘As the bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so does your God rejoice over you,’” Lauren said. “And it is pretty cool, because our wedding date is 6-25. A very neat reminder to us every anniversary and a great testimony to others.”
But with Scripture also came vintage styling, the bride said. “I love vintage, but not in an I-know-exactly-what-era-that’s-from kind of thing,” Lauren said. “ I also did not want people to show up and say, ‘Lauren had a pink wedding!’ I wanted the colors to be a little subtler. From there, I began the process.”
Lauren hung escort cards from a antique shutter, stamped a bird’s nest on her do-it-yourself wedding programs, and tacked weathered frames to the background of her photo booth. “Really, I just found things I liked along the way and it thankfully came together,” she said.

September 7, 2011 at 10:35 pmI LOVE the feet-washing. That is so sweet and shows their commitment to each other in a very biblical way, which seems to really fit with their beliefs as a couple. I wish that would fit into my ceremony, but we are getting married in a formal sanctuary, so we’ll be sticking with a unity candle.

September 8, 2011 at 5:22 pmNothing makes us happier than seeing our clients photo’s of their big day and knowing we were blessed enough to be such a big part of that! I HAD COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE FEET WASHING and love, love, love the truth behind Lauren’s humble words and the symbolism of that act. Lauren, her wonderfully mother and that whole bridal party were so wonderful! She even gave us the sweetest thank you card, before the ceremony!!!! It really made our team so excited, that we giggled while sitting everything up….Wonderful folk!!!
